Atlanta’s own 100 Watt Horse last year was our favorite new discovery of 2014, delivering a debut EP, The 100 Watt Horse, that we still can’t put down. George Pettis has a way of songwriting, using imagery to paint the story he is portraying through song. With a knack for melodies, adding girl- guy harmonies, wrapping their voices around each other with perfect timing, and use of different instruments that are both subtle and rich, we have been eagerly awaiting what’s next for 100 Watt Horse.
Today, 100 Watt Horse, announces their debut full length album, Everything Is Alright Forever and Forever and Forever and Thank You Thank You Thank You Amen, due out June 16th via Bear Kids Recordings and Deer Bear Wolf Records.
Listen to the first single, “Hold It” below. This single shows a new side of 100 Watt Horse, lo-fi with a nice drum machine beat and added experimental sounds. It’s clear 100 Watt Horse is growing, and we are all better for it. This is sure to be an album that puts Pettis and his 100 Watt Horse on your map.
From the press release:
“Anyone who has seen one of 100 Watt Horse’s many shows over the past year or so knows that George Pettis can silence a room with no microphone and just an acoustic guitar. It is with this familiar intimacy that the debut full-length album from 100 Watt Horse opens with “Bees 1” – an appropriately lo-fi acoustic strum and an enveloping tape hiss, showcasing a sparse arrangement that in no way lessens the power of the song as an opening statement. And while 100 Watt Horse consistently returns to this spare and honest approach throughout the album, they also occasionally approach pop and folk songs through more a experimental lens, incorporating analog synths and drum machines and studio wizardry into their arresting compositions. The result is a cohesive but eclectic achievement.
Everything Is Alright Forever and Forever and Forever and Thank You Thank You Thank You Amen. is a subtle but memorable debut long-player for 100 Watt Horse and a satisfying follow-up to 2014’s self-titled EP. While the EP saw 100 Watt Horse treading familiar paths, the debut LP sees them cutting their own new path through a dense forest of distraction, boiling down these compositions into only what needs to be there.
100 Watt Horse’s debut full-length EAFAFAFATTTA is out June 16th on Bear Kids Recordings and Deer Bear Wolf Records. 100 Watt Horse is kicking off an extensive cross-country tour in advance of the release starting on May 1st with the Boomstock showcase at Big House on Ponce in Atlanta. Early copies of the album will be available on cassette tape exclusively at shows on tour until the official release date. A code for a high-quality digital download is included with every tape.”
