Oxford, Mississippi’s Andrew Bryant has proved to be a prolific songwriter, releasing his sixth solo album earlier this year This Is The Life, an album that has firmly entrenched itself in OpenEars Music’s Top 5 of the year (no matter what comes out the rest of the year).
Andrew is one half of Fat Possum Records own Water Liars, a band that we have fallen in love with over the last few years releasing phenomenal records like their self titled album Water Liars last year, one of our favorites of the year.
We first discovered Bryant through via Water Liars, and when we heard this solo album, we were blown away. In This Is The Life we find Bryant working through the struggles of life.
Today’s Song of The Day is the third track on the album, Keep It Together, a slow building song with a punch and a beating drum line that makes you feel that passion in Bryant’s voice and lyrics. Bryant starts out by telling her “Everything I do, you know it can’t be for you, cause there are somethings I have to do for myself, just trying to make the cut, put another notch in my belt.”
“There is nothing wrong with dreaming, it might be all we’ve got” Bryant croons. “Can’t drink away the pain, hell it will do you good to feel, you tell yourself that you will be the only one but you better keep it together or everything will come undone” Bryant works through the struggles we go through.
It’s an honest song, we have all been there, and we can feel where Bryant is. This guy is a prolific artists, that you need to know. Buy his great new solo album, perhaps at one of his shows?
