Deerhunter Return with New Album, Share ‘Snakeskin’, Fading Frontier out 10/16 via 4AD

Deerhunter return with the announcement of Fading Frontier, their seventh studio album from the Atlanta noise/art rock band, set for release on October 16, 2015 on 4AD.

Deerhunter also have shared the video for album track ‘Snakeskin‘, which was premiered on Sunday evening during a two-hour radio show presented by Bradford Cox on Atlanta’s AM 1960. ‘Snakeskin’ is a funky new track that jams and grooves hard flanked by Bradford Cox’s ominous lyrics “I was born already nailed to the cross/ I was born with a feeling I was lost.”

Deerhunter have always been able to mix it up, and based on ‘Snakeskin’ it seems a departure from 2013’s Monomania is in store. But that’s never a bad development when Bradford Cox, Lockett Pundt, and crew are involved. This is one of those bands that could play two songs on the opposite side of the spectrum, yet still be distinctly Deerhunter. This band is always on the forefront of creation/experimentalism, and Fading Frontier is near the top of the list for anticipated fall releases.

You can view the video to ‘Snakeskin’ (directed by Valentina Tapia) below, with the track also available to download and stream today.

The record was made by founding members Bradford Cox, Lockett Pundt, Moses Archuleta, and bassist Josh McKay. Written in their hometown of Atlanta, CA, production duties were shared by the band and Ben H. Allen III, continuing a collaboration that began with 2010’s Halcyon Digest.
