Diarrhea Planet is ready to explode. While that may sound like the opening line from an unfortunate scatologoical science fiction novel, we’re talking about the overwhelmingly powerful sextet (!) hailing from Nashville. As expected, a group of six musicians makes a lot of noise, but Diarrhea Planet is able to harness their bountiful energy into a rollicking mix of riffs, solos, and harmonies. The band is going to release their much-anticipated album Turn to Gold this summer and they haven’t been shy about their aspirations, referring to it as their Back in Black album only half-jokingly.
Their latest single “Let it Out” is a perfect example of the high-reaching rock Diarrhea Planet is aiming for. Often times a band can feel like a discordant group of individuals, all having to compromise their own artistic visions for the greater good. But Diarrhea Planet sounds a lot like a team firing on all cylinders; each member instinctively knowing their place within the group and playing to their strengths. This kind of dynamic can only be forged by time and a willingness to set aside personal ego, and three years removed from their last full-length (and plus an additional member) the band has gelled into something special.
The track swells and pulsates, a direct result of the amount of raw energy put in by each member. Give it a listen and appreciate the sounds of a group of people genuinely enjoying playing together, and the fun this kind of collaboration creates.
