The moment the house lights went down and the members of Low took the stage the audience cheered and then almost immediately fell deathly quiet. A moment passed. And then with a few cracks and pops from the guitar the beat began and the mood of the room changed from anticipation to an loving embrace.

Billed as An Evening With Low, the band, Alan Sparhawk (guitar and vocals), Mimi Parker (drums and vocals), and Steve Garrington (bass guitar) played 2 sets of material spanning their entire career from their breathtaking beautiful debut record though their critically acclaimed new release Ones and Sixes.

The snarl and chimes of the guitar, the intertwining voices of Alan and Mimi and Steve’s propelling bass and keyboards combined to created an impossibly lush soundscape yet there were so many holes in the songs that you caught yourself holding your breath at times in order to keep from breaking the silence.

  1. Thanks John for the photos and description of this amazing night of music. Is it just me, or does this band bring something very unusual to its audience, a real spiritual experience that pushes us out into the world to be better people and citizens…
