Royal Thunder, Sons of Tonatiuh, and Gunpowder Gray @ Star Bar 11/17/17

A special hometown show with three of Atlanta’s beloved rock and roll bands went down at Star Bar last Friday night. It was an intense combination of rock and roll heavy hitters: Gunpowder Gray, Sons of Tonatiuh, and Royal Thunder. It was great to catch Gunpowder Gray and Royal Thunder at the same time as Gunpowder Gray just returned home to Atlanta from a stint across the U.S. and Royal Thunder is shipping out to Europe to tour.

Gunpowder Gray

Gunpowder Gray started the show off hot. The guys set the mood for the night with their heavy rock and roll.  They have a classic rock feel but a bit metal with guitar riffs that snarl. If you are a fan of Thin Lizzy and/or Motorhead then Gunpowder Gray is right up your alley.

Sons of Tonatiuh

Sons of Tonatiuh were up next. The three-piece band has been melting faces since 2008. Their sound is heavy, doom metal and it blended well with the rock and roll vibe of the night. Sons of Tonatiuh’s front man, Dan Caycedo, may be small in stature but his voice is full, menacing and sounds like he’s crying out from the depths of a deep dark soul.

Royal Thunder

Royal Thunder closed out the night to a packed crowd. It was a proper hometown send off for the group as they are heading out to tour in Europe. The group eased into their set with “Low” which starts out low and slow and builds with front woman Mlny Parsonz’ voice piercing through the heavy rock and roll of the band. Mlny is not only the voice of the band but she is also the bass player, which is unique and makes her a rock goddess in the eyes of many. Royal Thunder has been around for about 10 years but within the last couple of years the group has really started to take off touring with Ghost and showing why they are more than just hometown heroes, but also an international brand.
