Song of the Day: Warpaint – “New Song”

Another heat wave has struck and just in time to cool us off is Warpaint’s “New Song”. The dream pop sequence is off the band’s new album Heads Up, out September 23rd. Warpaint recorded Heads Up with producer Jacob Bercovici via Rough Trade Records (Parquet Courts, Houndmouth, Palma Violets) and is the follow up to their self titled release back in 2014. That’s right, it’s been a full two years since Warpaint last released an album. The band spent 2015 working on solo projects, of which you can check out bassist Jennylee’s new album HERE.

“New Song” is everything i’ve anticipated and more. The post punk mystique of Warpaint’s sound (with screeching guitars) is still prevalent in the background, but a new poppiness to groove and dance to takes the forefront, making this one of best songs that have been released lately. The music plays along with the lyrics “dancing to you all night long” like a tag and chase game. Of Heads Up, Jenny Lee Lindberg said “I love the way it came together so nicely. I feel so proud of it, and like it’s an evolution of our band. It sounds like a mature version of Warpaint.” Be sure to grab your pre-order and a ticket to one of their shows to hear for yourself!
