Brooklyn-based Yeasayer returned to Atlanta on Monday night at Terminal West behind the influential indie rock band’s fifth studio album, Erotic Reruns, released on June 7th via their own label Yeasayer Records.

Opening up the show was LA-based Steady Holiday, a noir pop project of Dre Babinski. Steady Holiday has released two full length albums including 2018’s Nobody’s Watching, released via Barsuk Records. Starting out as a three piece band, Dre showed a little bit of everything to the Atlanta crowd. There was the airy synths with Dre on guitar, she played the violin, and the band even left her onstage solo while Dre continued to captivate the crowd with her melodies and witty lyrics. It was a beautiful set that showed off all sides of an artist that has a Michelle Zauner (of Japanese Breakfast) level of lovability that makes you just want to hug her and your neighbor as she plays her ominous songs. It was an absolutely wonderful set, but quite different from what was to come from the headliner.

By the time Yeasayer took the stage, the crowd was ready to let loose and dance to the experimental rock band. Since first releasing their debut album in 2007, and follow-up Odd Blood in 2010, Yeasayer has been at the forefront of experimental rock that can make the crowds mooooovvveee. On the surface, their latest album, Erotic Reruns, may seem like one of their most straightforward albums yet, smooth and compact, but their core of twisted and sinister pop is all still right there. These new songs like singles “Ecstatic Baby”, “Let Me Listen In On You”, and “Fluttering In The Floodlights” mixed in perfectly throughout the setlist with fan favorites like “Sunrise”and “O.N.E.”. The career spanning set found the indie rock veterans bouncing around stage throughout the night, while keeping the ecstatic fans dancing and leaving them wishing for more. A perfect summer night at Terminal West.
